Who we are, what we do

Yard Explorers was set up in 2012, recognising the need to inspire educational professionals in school and nursery settings with ideas and ways of working effectively outdoors – specifically in the school yard or field environment.

Jane Wratten has a combined work experience in school and nursery settings of over 25 years – firstly as a community projects landscape designer, then a primary school teacher and more recently combining her skills as a self-employed trainer, designer and Early Years Outdoor Play Consultant.

Jane is also:

  • A regular enthusiastic volunteer in a wonderful community pre-school
  • An active member of the Landscapes for Early Childhood Network (LEC) – a group of professionals from the landscape architecture and early years education worlds who have a particular interest in early years outdoor spaces.
  • An accredited Learning Through Landscapes (LtL) Professional Facilitator
  • A Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Assessor

Yard Explorers is based in Sheffield, but works on a national level.

Where appropriate Jane works with a number of other professional associates – landscape contractors, craftspeople, artists, designers, trainers and environmental educators. Together we are able to deliver a range of creative services to achieve the fantastic work that we do.
